masks

a covering for all or part of the face, worn as a disguise, or to amuse or terrify other people.

Masks is a series of portrait illustrations depicting the modern uses of masks in current society.

  1. The Shapeshifter - Similar to a chameleon, one who wears this mask is able to change their colour and blend seamlessly into a room. They are constantly observing and reading social cues, often mimicking the behaviors or others to mold into whatever they deem is appropriate to their current situation. Some use this mask to position themselves into a place of advantage or some wear this mask to feel as sense of belonging.

  2. The Iron Mask - Some of us feel imprisoned by the mask we wear. Similar to the Shapeshifter, we wear mask to belong, regardless of whether or not this is our truest selves. We feel an obligation and imprisoned by the mask we wear.

  3. The Goddess - Often times we end up applying masks to others. We praise and worship them based on what we believe them to be without truly finding out who they are. What we don’t realize, is that we’ve projected our desires to these people. We compare us to them, ultimately belittling ourselves.

  4. Time - Time is the only true constant and these masks we’ve decided to wear will ultimately fade away. Acceptance of this fact is a key to truly understanding yourself and who we are as individuals.
